Director's Note:
Back in 2015, I directed Macbeth at the Number One Shakespeare Street here in Stratford. Due to various unforeseen circumstances, I felt that I hadn't done it complete justice. As such, I'm thrilled to bits (and bobs!) to have been able to bring it back and breathe new life into it, exploring the characters, their relationships and emotional journeys in a whole new light. The Witches, while maintaining their original incarnation as the ghosts of women killed as Witches by hanging, drowning and burning, have also evolved into the elemental spirits of Earth, Water and Fire - essentially becoming the elements that killed them. A solo Apparition completes the quartet as the spirit of Air; the most simple and basic element of the four - like the Apparition, it just is. |
